A Documentary Film  ·  In Development

The Young Lords

In the late 1960s, a group of first-generation Puerto Rican youth in New York City staged a series of political actions — taking over a hospital, a church, and piling burning garbage in the streets — to protest the racist and discriminatory lack of services in their communities. Told in the style of an edge-of-your-seat heist film, and set to a score of salsa, hip-hop, and reggaeton, The Young Lords weaves together cinematic archival, stylized recreations, and lively interviews with larger-than-life personalities to tell the vibrant and urgent story of a group of young people determined to build the world they wanted to live in.
